Mikey Dread "School Girl"

Post by groovedubber »

I recently picked up "Evolutionary Rockers" on CD from the DATC label. Wonderful album. I am curious about the "School Girl" track. Were there any effects placed on Mikey Dread's vocals? They sound so low and deep and a little bizarre. At first listen I thought it was someone else voicing the track.

Sounds to me more like it's without a sound effect. Could very well be that he's just using a very low/deep voice cause it fits the tune. I like it, sounds great imho. Nice track!

I also believe it to be without added effects. I hear just a somewhat nasal voice?
Lovely track too

Thanks for the responses. It is a bizarre but catchy vocal the way it fits over the drum and bass.

I have the original LP but not the CD with extra tracks on it. However I presume that "School Girl" is the Lee Perry production from 1979 which would explain the different sound/sound effects. I've got it on a 12" Black Art JA single. Must admit I prefer the flip side "Living my life" by Keith Texon!
