Question about Big Youth's version of "Hit The Road Jack"...

Post by openupthegate »

I love Big Youth's cover of "Hit The Road Jack"...it is probably my favorite cover of all time.

But I have a question for the people out there that know more than me...the version of "Hit The Road Jack" on "Natty Universal Dread" sounds a little different from the version on the Trojan Records "Ride Like Lightning". On "Ride Like Lightning", the song has some extra percussion and singing from Big Youth added into the mix.

Maybe it doesn't matter...but does anyone know why the two record companies chose two different-sounding mixes...or where both the mixes come from? I've been all around the internet, and there isn't an explanation anywhere. But maybe I'm just crazy, and I'm the only one that noticed.

I'm guessing that it's two different recordings made for different producers, which would be fairly typical of the JA music scene?

Thanks for the feedback...
I know that Big Youth produced the version on "Ride Like Lighning", it's just that the Trojan Records version basically just sounds like the version on the Blood And Fire compilation, only with more added on...and that confuses me.
