Re: Burning Spear
I agree that Hail HIM is my favorite studio album by the Spear; also terrific are Dry & HEavy and Farover. Burning Speak Live in Paris is one of my top 3 live reggae albums of all time.

Thanks very much guys for your input.
Guess I should add the Hail Him LP to the list as it seems commonly recognised amongst yourselves as an important classic.

Re: Burning Spear
I would also check out the Living Dub companions to Hail H.I.M & Social Living. I enjoy listening to them showcase style-original tune followed by the dub. I definately agree with the above sentiments on these two records, great great stuff. I would also recomend the "Behold the Spear Burning" set on Pressure Sounds. This is a compilation of Spear productions from the mid to late 1970's. Some excellent stuff culled from rare singles most featureing versions. Of interest to me is "Throw Down Your Arms" with Big Joe, one of the few DJ treatments of post Studio 1 Spear tunes.
I'd also reccomend "Farover" which is from a little later, the eaarly 80's, but still a great album. Spear said he did it because he wanted to record some of the songs he'd done for Studio 1 in the way that Coxsone hadn't let him. Also to make some of the songs available again as the Studio 1 material had long been out of print and hard to find. Its interesting to compare these versions to the originals now available.
Ites,

Love that one CRANKED real loud....the drums is sweet...forgot the name..anyone???
