Well heavy! Eek A Mouse doesn't get the respect he deserves nowadays.

This video is crucial...I wonder who the backing band was? I personally like Eek...I think the man sings over some of the most crucial radics rythms there are. It's sad that not everyone gives him the respect he deserves.

I don't know what personal relation you have to Eek or why you feel like that. But what he brought to the table those times was one of the freshest styles dancehall had seen and he did it great! When Eek got on the minor chord rhythms and did his thing, for me personally there was no contest on who the best deejay was.

I dont like dj and singjays a lot but Eek-a-mouse is awesome, but i agree in part with arize_rootsman, he sound horrible to me in lot of his songs, i like only a poor lot of him but i love them! (Mouseketter album i love pretty all songs, in the other i like only as 2 - 3 songs by albums, the rest is horrible to me! No respect of times for sing, bad rimes, adding some syllabs too late, abusing of mouth sounds etc etc)
His best tune is "star daily news or gleaner" in "mouseketter" album to me(and his first single "no wicked can't reign"), songs as "pretty city" in "the mouse & the man" or "long time ago" in "wa-do-dem", i need to try the other albums but i dont think one will please me more that "mouseketter".

no for reals like most of his riddims he puts on all his albums he took them from other singers who had already made them for instance "sensi party" that riddim came from the first group that made it wer the viceroys "the intelligence of her mind" see what i mean and there are other songs that he has that he tried to over dub in his own style but it turned to be crap its wiered how linval thompson and junjo actually had time for his sessions lol

Of course I respect your opinion arize, but if you hadn't noticed, most all of the dj's and singjays of the dancehall era sang over each others rhythms. When one person had a hit song on one rhythm, all the other dj's wanted to put there lyrics over that rhythm too. You can't say that Eek stole rhythms, because he didn't. In my opinion Eek used some of the more obscure radic rhythms. If you listen to the lp "mouse and the man" you will see that almost every rhythm he sings on is hard and mellencholic. Not to mention these rhythms are relatively un-used by other singers (with the exception of one or two). Looking strictly at Eek as a musician, I think he was brilliant. No one at that time was comming in the style that he was. There were people that tried, like Simple Simon, but I don't think he even came close to the man Eek.
