Man, who gives a shit wether Dennis Brown died of Aids or Not, or Gregory is a Crackhead. They Made music as important as the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. They Are True Legends in every sense. My experience of hard 'Drugs' is they don't care wether your Black or White, rich or poor, famous or a nobody. The Fact is 90% of people who become involved with them know what the score is beforehand. i.e Its a runaway train and if you get off and are able to reflect and dicuss it then you are lucky. I know i am new on the forum and i don't mean to upset anyone either. It's a worthy of discussion, but i'm sticking to the music. I saw alot of my friends go a bad way. Too much of anything is not good.

Perhaps if these artists hadn't died of drugs or drug related stuff, or weren't now too messed up in their heads to record - then perhaps we'd still be getting some of that GREAT music out of them.

I had also heard of the rumors about Dennis Brown's abuse of hard drugs, but I had never heard about HIV/AIDS (which is really here nor there). Here is a link to several obituaries regarding Dennis and there is no mention from The NY Times, AP, or the JA Observer, I don't see why they would have held back that information. What is truely amazing is how much music the man created in 42 short years.

Cool Leggo Rocker, i agree its a shame. But just like someone said earlier in the thread, drug discussion can overtake the good. David Katz wrote that Jack Ruby, for instance did far too much in music to rembered for having drug issues. And that is always the danger.

I like to remember all these guys and girls for their music.

All walks of life have problems, many of them with drugs, alchohol, gambling, or some other addiction. And I guess life will always be like that.

Let's all take some time to celebrate the positive, while recognising the dangers of the negative.

Big up the marvelous creativity that has come through from individuals and groups who may have come from difficult backgrounds or suffered many tough situations - wether they survived them or not.

I think that this adversity breeds genuine creativity. But if it all gets to the washed-out on-heavy-drugs stage, then the creativity gets masked, obstructed or even --- killed dead.

While I agree that hearing such facts about our favorite artists can make some people forget about whats really important (their music), I don't think the facts should be hidden. Just don't let the bad eclipse the good.

Bless all musicians who bring joy to our lives with their art.

Hi guys

As a music/reggae fan i look i tend to look at things in a proper perspective. Drugs is as worldwide as money, alcohol and has the same negative influence on Human being. In third World environment the abuse of drugs is simply a means of escaping the harsh reality of life that one find difficult to cope with. Even in cases like breaking up in a relationship tends to have the same effect and my dear friend this one does not happen only in third world environment. What makes it more for people living a socially ill life is that seing things clearly affects your mental state and this is something they have to face on a daily basis. A moment of clarity in an alcoholic's life is pure pain if one is facing difficult moments.
My point is that there is part of this world that is so messed up that the abuse of substance has a positive effect on their life.
