My rub-a-dub mixes - new and old

Post by BMC »

One of my favorite early 80s deejays is Purpleman, there's just something I really like about his style. 5 years ago I did this mix showcasing some of his works (only what I have on vinyl, so some album are not represented) and since the download link broke I've been getting the occassional request for a re-up. Don't think I posted it on Roots Archives at the time and I usually don't post my mixes here since I feel it's more for discussion here. Still I figured this one might be of interest to one or two that missed it back then, so decided to post it. If it's preferred not to, do remove the post. The mix has two extra tracks to it compared to the 2009 one (found another Purpleman 45 in those years), check it out if you like.

To keep it short, I wont put in all details here. Tracklist, sources of tracks, listen/download and all can be found on my blog:

Go Purpleman You Better Go, Ribbit! :-)

Thanks Congo Bunny, good to read it was of interest to someone here as well.

In addition (don't want to start a new thread for it), I also re-uploaded an old mix I did focussing around Toyan's How The West Was Won album. All info can be found through the same link: http://bettermustcome.blogspot.com

I must have missed the Toyan mix update on facebook, he's one of my favorite DJs.
You should post more links here, I bet someone else will love your mixes as I do. Especially the sizzla kalonji and bredrin mixes...160mins of eargasms!

Thanks for the kind words ras_gaks!

Yeah, that Sizzla 2-mix set was really nice to make and is one I'm still very pleased with. Took me quite some research, recording and time to make it as it turned out. Was very nice to do. Can only be heard on my mixcloud page for now.

As for missing the Toyan update on Facebook, yeah, it seems that's what mostly happens there. I sometimes gets questions on new mixes, while I just posted one or so, so (as on my own timeline) it seems most of the posts there get lost and only reaches a handful of people, making forums a better way to reach interested listeners than FB. Particularly for people with 100s or even 1000s of friends, a new post disappears as fast as they appeared. Posting the same thing multiple times to reach more people feels too much like spamming to me, but maybe is the only way. Oh well, most people wont comment anyway, so it's not that I'm missing out. :-)

It's disappointing how FB chooses what to reflect on ones homepage. :-/
Most people choose the 'spamming' option and it seems to work, you can try it with your next mix...hopefully I won't miss it -podcast, mixcloud, soundcloud pages- bookmarked.

BTW, if you haven't listened to this mix, I advice you to give it a try.

Give thanks for your effort BMC!

Once you have posted on Faceboo, you can go to actual post, click on the top-right arrow and select highlight. That might work Marc. ;)

Uploaded something new today, rub-a-dub stylee again:

Posse, Are You Ready? (Vol. I) - a 1979 - 1985 rub-a-dub mix by BMC

Been over 3 years since my last mix on 70s/80s reggae, so about time to drop something new again! Here is:

Posse, Are You Ready?

A mix focussing on what is probably my favourite era of Jamaican music: 1979 - 1985. One hour of pure rub-a-dub niceness. In this first volume (hopefully more to follow!) there's tunes by a whole variety of singers and deejays and no vocalist appears twice. All tracks are taken from vinyl, so expect some crackle and pop here and there. Mix in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, one continuous mix with some added soundsamples, sources of each track given. Check it out and try not to move to this, it wont work!

Drop me a comment if you enjoy the works. If there's enough interest, I'll probably drop a Vol. II and maybe even III soon.

Posse, Are You Ready? - Vol. I
(in brackets the source of each track is given, where 7, 10 and 12 are single sizes)
