Classic " Dub Album " Sunday

King Tubby “Dub Inventor vol 1” (UK white label). This is a bootleg (I think) re-issue (circa 2005?) of the JA LP known as “city of the weakheart dub” (circa 1975) which is in itself a dub cut to Jacob Millers “city of the weakheart”. It was released on the E-E Saw label with no cover, no track listing and a label referring to the vocal LP. The LP also got wider issue as a CD on the Motion label under the title “King Tubby meets Jacob Miller in a Tenement Yard”.

As anyone who has heard it may know it is famous or infamous for the wild keyboard overdubs by Bernard Touter Harvey – which excites some and annoys others! It also features a couple of xylophone tracks which allegedly feature Augustus Pablo.

Some of the keyboard lines faithfully follow the equivalent vocals ie “tenement yard” whereas others sound like the sort of synthesised duck talking sounds you might hear on early Disney cartoons!
I suppose this LP is effectively the very first “fatman riddim section“ outing - Bernard Touter Harvey of course, also featured on the fatman riddim section LP “featuring touter” where his keyboard style was a little more tuneful & subdued - either way great stuff

CD today , and it's " Escape from Hell " - Tappa Zukie on Trojan TJDCD336 , with loads of bonus tracks as well . ( Saw this sold on eBay this week as " Musical Intemidaters -Dub Master " on Stars , big bucks !! )

Dr. Alimantado - Kings Bread Dub

A little late, but last Sunday I was listening to this one heavily on mp3. It's one of the greater dub albums I've heard. I love dubs with hand drums in the front of the mix and Kings Bread Dub is laden with them. Does anyone know who the engineer is? Alimantado himself perhaps? I have a copy of the LP headed my way now and I think it may actually be the very elusive original press from '79! The sleeve design of the copy I bought is the same as the Kings Bread vocal counterpart but with an extremely small label that reads "DUB" above Kings Bread. I should know in a week or so whether I am correct in my assumption.

Either I will be very pleased or feeling a little dumb for paying $40 for a repress. :0 I'll let RA know whatever the outcome.

Damn! That would be a fantastic find if it was the original. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is. And if it is please scan or take photographs of the labels and artworks. I've never ever seen the original. But as you said earlier a great dub album. Would it be wrong to consider it even better than the vocal?

Yes, brother kal. If it is an original I will certainly add an entry to discogs. The only scanner I have access to is at the law firm where I work so the entry will probably be pictures taken from my phone. Even though recreational cannabis is now legalized in my state, nothing good will come of being seen by management with an image of a dread up to his neck in lambsbread!

Gotta say that I wouldn't even have known about the original press if it weren't for your thread about Alimantado's dub LPs a couple years back and Bellyman's reply therein. And, yeah, it is definitely wrong to think Kings Bread Dub is a better listen than Kings Bread. I may be able to forgive you if you release that amazing unreleased Mr. Sparling track you have.

Never heard of Kings Bread Dub until much later - my copy is like the one here:

which obviously was not released in 1979, as it has pictures of some of his late 80´s records on the cover.

It turns out that is the same pressing of the copy I ordered. Oh well. Can't complain really as the sound quality is very good and I didn't own the repress already. It seems some copies of the '89 issue were sold in Kings Bread sleeves (the late 80's ones) with a label on the front to tell it apart from the vocal album. There are two labels on the back above the Kings Bread tracks with titles for Kings Bread Dub.

Into the dub vaults today , and we have " In The Light Dub " mixed by Prince Jammy . Absolutely crucial. this one ! I had forgotten how good this one is , my copy of this is the Simply Vinyl heavyweight re-issue , stunning quality but not the original , which came out , I think , on Hungry Town .

Great Dub Album! Don't know the repress, but originals on Hungry Town have very good sound quality as well.
