"Trying man" dubplate

Post by anbessa »

Little mix of two home made dubplate versions of one of the greatest roots tunes ever, Tony Barrett's "Trying man". A record that's almost impossible to find/afford (at least for me...), so I decided to cover it !
Featuring Jah Bast on lead vocal, Alex Schneiter on trumpet, Matteo D'Amico on trombone.

Hope you'll enjoy !

Was going to ask you after hearing it on one video of your last session.
Nice one! Great rework!

Truly beautiful. Who is Jah Bast? He has a nice and comforting voice.

Indeed Kalcidis! I really like his tone. He has one of the most deep voices in contemporary roots reggae (IMHO).
I think he is a good friend of Anbessa and featuring in his last production alongside Ras Digby.
Also sings for the Swiss band The Shades.

Thanks a lot for the nice comments, glad you like it !
Yes, Satta is right, Jah Bast is a young singer from Geneva, and a good friend of mine, who usually sings with the Shades, on the great Darker Shades of Roots label. I released two songs with him ("My meditation of him shall be sweet" with the Tamlins, and "Ancient wisdom" with Ras Digby). It's not often that I am impressed with a european singer, and I really think he has a great voice.
