Hey folks,
recently I bought the repress of the Chantells' "Waiting in the Park" LP. A side is a fine, but B side comes with horrible sound quality. Read somewhere else, that other people got the same problem. Is it a repress issue, does anybody own an original copy?
Btw: Somebody really should repress those rare Phase One 12" and 7" !!

Mine sounds like that too, so it's just the way it goes. Mine is a repress too from about 10 years+ ago. But least the Blood and fire cd sounds nice. I hate when records look clean but sound like garbage!

Bought one of these several years ago and it is the same, so they are probably all like that. Wondering too if the original pressing is good?
Another recent repress that is totally unplayable, kept skipping constantly all through both sides, is Big Youth "Chi Chi Run" on Prince Buster, was able to return it and later find a FAB original instead.

Re: Chantells "Waiting in the Park" LP
I bought "Waiting in the Park" on phase 1 CD and the first 5 tracks are fine but then the sound on the next 5 tracks becomes really tinny and horrible.
But what I also found is that the CD which I bought has all the same artwork as the "Waiting In the Park" album and was sold as such but actually contains the tracks to "Chantells Collection" as listed on the Sprint CD.
I found this really disappointing as it completely misses out "True Born Africans" and contains a shortened version of "Children of Jah" that appears on the Blood and Fire CD minus the toast. This is different to the original album version which I prefer.

Also my mate has an original pressing of this album and from memory there were no sound quality issues that I can recall.
Also I agree with Nilo, someone does need to reissue there output and also make it available on a 2 disc CD
Ditto this for the "Jewels " too, another greatly undervalued group

Not sure if Dave is referring to me, but I have both of those Chantells albums on vinyl.Rootsman wrote: Also my mate has an original pressing of this album and from memory there were no sound quality issues that I can recall.
I originally bought the reissue and was more than a little miffed to find out that it isn't actually "Waiting In The Park". As Dave points out it has the same cover, but with a different track listing. i.e. the one that referred to as "The Chantells Collection" on RA.
Incidentally it says Phase 1 Records and "Marketed by Sprint Records" on the back cover . The label is a "Phase 1" label, but actually says "Chantells Album" on it. Nowhere does it say "The Chantells Collection"
I've just played it and the sound quality is excellent.
On realising the album wasn't actually "Waiting In The Park" I went in search of the original.
I've just played that and the sound is, on a sonic level, pretty spectacular.
Really love both albums. Classic stuff!
I have a 7 reissue of "Blood River", although it doesn't appear on Roots Knotty Roots!?=Nilo82= wrote:Btw: Somebody really should repress those rare Phase One 12" and 7" !!
