Re: Rastafari Time - Errol Flabba Holt
it's good, you should buy it based on the rarity alone. but the sound is not flawless, you can tell they sourced a vinyl copy for this. i inquired with the ohm crew about the sound and they said flabba rather insisted that they use mixing lab for the remastering, so their hands were a bit tied in that regard. a bummer, i'm sure other studios/engineers would have cleaned it up more nicely. that said, it is nice and loud and the noise that does creep up is only on a couple of tracks, and is not distressing. more of a shame it's not better, rather than an "avoid" situation. hope that makes sense.
i also pointed out to him that the mention and positioning of the roots radics and scientist both in the photos used and the liner notes isn't appropriate, given the material is several years before the radics were even an idea. the album is pretty much 75/76 as you may know, so the focus on the radics and scientist seems weird. again, he said that the time they were working on this project flabba was still very much feeling the pain of style scott's murder, and i guess that's just where his head was, and wanted ohm to position the radics on the release. so hard to argue with that, but again slightly unfortunate.
at any rate, the music shines through above all, so i'm recommending it. oh, and the vinyl itself is heavy and nicely pressed. the only noise is from the mastering, not the wax. hope this helps.
