Hello all,
I have several different issues of the Best Of LP. The two earlier issues are confusing though - both have the original deep groove Coxsone label but one is in blue ink and one in black. The latter is somewhat patchy while the former is dark and clear.
One cover is silkscreened brown, beige, and red... the other is not screened, has a color picture as well as blue text.
Trying to sort which one came first, any help is appreciated!
Cheers -
Jonny

Thanks -
unfortunately that site deals mainly with 45 labels.
I'd assume the silkscreen jacket is the first issue, but perhaps the blue text label?
Oh well, I suppose it's not terribly important.

There's one way to find out.
Put them both up for sale on ebay and see which one gets the highest bid. Then you know which one came first!

Earliest Jamaican pressings have matrix numbers FCD 7140 or FCD 7588. Both in split stereo (I think). Later reissue has matrix number CSL 8010, in a conventional stereo mix. An even later reissue has THE BEST OF ALTON ELLIS inscribed into the vinyl run-off.
I think the earliest cover is laminated and in full colour. The screen print sleeve came later.
Hope this helps,
Rob Chapman
