SHOPS IN LONDON

Post by pf »

Hi everybody,
I will be going to London for ten days at the end of this month. I would like you to tell me nice shops there were I can buy cds (I can´t buy lps right now). The only one I know is Sounds of the Universe (Soul-Jazz). I should say I am more into ska-rocksteady-early reggae so if you know some shop specialized in this...some that have lots of Jamaican Gold (I´ve never seen them in a shop) and Trojan (I need the Stranger Cole, Owen Gray and Jackie Edwards anthologies).
Last time I was there I catched a great dj and he talked about a shop called 'Pelp´s' or 'Phelp´s' or something like that...any idea?
Also if you know bars, pubs, nice places in general with Jamaican music.
Street names and area would be very helpful.
Of course your help is highly apreciated.
Cheers mates!

Peckings Studio One shop in Askew Road (Shepherd's Bush area) used to be my favourite but I haven't had the excuse to go there for a long time and I guess they do more vinyl than CDs. It stocks a lot of the stuff that has ended up on the Soul Jazz compilations as well as other foundation labels like Treasure Isle (and the last time I was there a bloke was trying to sell me some shirts!).

Hi pf

I would definitely check out Reckless Records and Sister Rays in Berwick Street, London W1. Both have a large selection of reggae CDs. Particularly Reckless Records.

There are a lot of music shops along that round and, although I don't know their names, you'll stumble across them jsut walking up that road.

Nearest tube is Oxford Circus.

They have a shop in London, pretty good for reggae CDs. Also lots of 'world music' if you like that stuff.

dub vendor is across the road from ladbroke grove station not notting hill.(and the clapham junction one is bigger, its on lavender hill)
but the record and tape exchanges there at notting hill are a must for all and every type of music! from 50 pence to 50 pounds.
also in soho market theres a shop called daddy cools.
but do look in the exchange shops in notting hill.
