Hi,
Could anyone tell me if the 'Bad Lamp' Perry dub of Leo Grahams 'Black Candel' is the same as the 'Black Bat' dub?
If not, which is the wilder dub?
Any help would be great,
john

These titles use the same great Perry-riddim. As you already mentioned 'Bad Lamp' is the version to Leo Graham's 'Black Candle. Leo recorded another song on the same rhythm called 'Doctor Demand' and 'Black Bat' is the version to that.
The 'wilder' dub is clearly 'Black Bat' as it features all these guitar- and keyboard-sounds to great effect. 'Bad lamp' is more sophisticated or heavy if you like.
To push this a bit further there is even a third record by Leo Graham on that same rhythm as he recorded his own 'Toasting' on this called 'Big Tongue Buster' with the version called 'Bus-a-Dub' which is even more down-to-earth than 'Bad Lamp'.
If you want all of them just watch out for the fantastic 'Public Jestering' compilation record that came from Attack records in 1990. It is still widely available.

I can't check my records atm, but I believe "Big Tongue Buster" was done by either Charley Ace or Prince Jazzbo. Correct me if I'm wrong.

David Katz gives the recording to an uncredited DJ in his brilliant book 'People Funny Boy', although you are right that Charlie Ace got the credits on the original 7" release on the Upsetter and Ethnic Fight labels.

Now managed to get Pampas Judas 7" and Black Candle 7" and have seen a copy of Dr Demand/Black Bat. Is the Black Bat dub same as the Pampas Version dub or different?

Re: Lee Perry-Black Bat/Bad Lamp....
'Doctor in demand' and 'Pampas Judas' is actually the identical song and there was no other version recorded by Perry. What happened is that the song got first released in JA as 'Doctor in demand' and when Perry was leasing his tunes to Larry Lawrence's Ethnic label in England the song got renamed 'Pampas Judas'. It was the identical 7" release to the JA original, so though I haven't heard both records back to back I would presume that the dub versions are the same.
