Re: Did Marley deserve title "King of Reggae"
In my opinion, Bob Marley is absolutely the king of reggae music. I love regae music and have many many favorite artists. But there is no one who's song writing abilities compare to Bob Marley's (unless maybe it's Leanord Dillon of The Ethiopians). I admit that I don't listen to Bob as much as I used to because of how many times I've heard each of his albums. But I think that if Bob had put out all of the material he did without gaining any international recognition, reggae purists would not hesitate to crown the man the king of reggae. His pre-Island works alone are enough to earn the title. Just my opinion. Respect.

Hi everyone
Regardless of how long we debate on this topic, and how many of us agrees and disagrees with the opinions in this thread there will never be a definitive answer to this question. "Who is the King Of Reggae". This is not an issue that goes on in reggae solely. In Hip Hop they debate on whether Tupac is the King, in Rock N Roll they debate on wether Elvis is the king, same thing for Michael Jackson as the King of Pop and the list goes on.
My point is this is a question of opinion and i guess most of this comes down to one question.
What if Bob, Tupac or Elvis was still alive would we be having this debate today?
Respect

RAAAASTAFARI!
I dont think that he deserves it but then again nobody does i think. Compare "Heart Of The Congos" with "Rastaman Vibration" and figure out which of the two albums that sounds most original. Heart Of The Congos!

Everyone will have there own opinion, but to me Bob is King,or Prophet if you will,he definately paved the way for most of the artists we all know today, Bob was his music, his music wasn't him.
