... To play one record to show someone who doesn't know anything about reggae what it's about, and perhaps convince them that it's the best music in the world
For me it would be: 7th Extension - Hard Times
It's a tune that has a bit of everything that reggae can offer: great horns, an upbeat rhythm, a jumping bassline and it's intertwined with moments of rubadub. And if the song really pleased I could go on about Shank I Sheck and how reshuffling songs played a big role in reggae music.
Just got a really big aftershock while I was typing this reply, whole house was shaking! Over 400 aftershocks since the big one at midnight last night. It feel like it's finally here..... https://youtu.be/UelKSF308vU
By "record", do you mean only one song? Otherwise I would play something like *Rebel Music - An Anthology Of Reggae Music*. I actually buy spares of it, when I find them cheap, to give to friends.
Yep I was thinking of a single song that would catch the listener's ear, cus I'm not sure many people would take the time to listen to a whole album of "boring/it's always the same/it doesn't have a beat" reggae.
