Web Radio

Post by leggo rocker »

So frustrated am I at not being able to play reggae records to an audience I've decided to start a web radio.

I've looked into it and there's various ways to do it, legally.

I'd like some feedback from you guys about what you'd like to hear (and see as we'll have a supporting website).

I plan to run mainly pre-recorded loops, so it can go 24/7.

But I also plan to do 'live' shows, direct from the turntables, which I will also repeat as loops for those in different time zones.

I'd also happily allow guest DJs on the show. At first by pre-recorded loops but once I trust you, you may even get to go live.

Please give me feedback either here or by PM.

Thanks Ranking.

I already have a guy lined up to play the rocksteady - ska era stuff. He has more of this than me and a better knowledge of the stuff.

I will try to structure the shows so they are themed, or represent a specific era or even artists. I have almost 100 Sugar Minott 12 inch 45s just busting to get to your ears.

I will also play later digital stuff in special shows. I don't have a huge amount of this but there's that box of 60 Ariwa / Greensleeves digital 12s I just picked up waiting for your ears.

Hi brothers
I'm glad to read about your reggae radio, Leggo. I play reggae in a fm radio, spinning only classic tunes. I do my show talking 'bout them.My focus is on reggae history and on the same themes of the roots lyrics:rooted in culture, spiritual devotion, human fraternity;in a word,Love.
I hope you can go on!!!

I've registered a domain for it just now - leggoRockers.com

In case you wonder, when I was a teenager into reggae I used to hang around with a bunch of motorcycle dudes who were also into bikes and reggae like me. We were mad on leggo Dub as it was about the first dub we really heard. And Rockers was not only a reggae term but also applied to heavy dude type bikers in the UK. So we knicknamed ourselves the Leggo Rockers!

Now I am going to try to get my radio licence thing sorted by using a pre-packaged radio stream system. Later, maybe, if it all works, I will try to do the radio without this, but right now it works as it pays the broadcast licence and provides the stream.

I have the technology and a server, so I could do it myself at some stage maybe.

I hope to be up and running early in the new year. The main problem is getting enough material on digital format as you all know I tend to shun MP3 in favour of playing wax.

REAL BIG THANKS to all you guys for your encouragement.
