It's possible...the CIA kept tabs on many musicians, like John Lennon or Bob marley (the latter's assassination attempt was politically motivated). The fact is, the CIA was instrumental in many assassinations and overthrown governments that were democratically elected (Patrice Lumumba in Congo, Salvador Allende in Chile among many others)

The CIA has DEFFINITELY been involved in Jamaica over the years. Mostly because the Socialist party is pretty strong there (especially in the late 70's), and American leaders worry about the possibility of JA becoming a communist country.

Jamaica's involvement in the drug trade has probably contributed to the CIA being involved with Jamaican politics as well.

There are several theories which claim Marley was shot in a failed CIA assassination attempt. I personally do not have specific proof of this, but I sure wouldn't doubt that it could be true.

Which artist(s) are you referring to specifically?

The CIA kept (keeps) close tabs on ANYONE in a position of popular influence (like artists, musicians, film stars) who stood up and exercised freedom of speech when that speech inconveniently didn't follow the CIA's ideological line.

I think they call this democracy in the USA, don't they?

The US version of democracy is for the people of a given state or country to be able elect anyone, as long as it's someone the CIA want in power...

And in many many democratic countries the people in power are often voted in by a relatively tiny majority of the people, the UK included.

I once heard someone refer to modern democracy as DemonCrazy. I think he had a point.

The shooting really happened, yes. But the theory part is about who called the hit.

For those who feel the shooting couldn't have been the work of the CIA, may I suggest they watch the film about the assasination of President Kennedy called JFK starring Kevin Costner? If the CIA can shoot their own President they'll sure as hell not think twice about shooting some troublesome rastaman...

For more reading on the dirty covert wars that intelligence agency has caused, i recommend this website:

Based on a book called 'Killing Hope', referring to what the imperialists did to foreign people's hopes for democracy.

Back in the '70s they didn't call the, now former, PM of JA "CIA-ga" for nothing!
