AFRICAN MUSEUM LABEL

Post by Roddy »

This Label if i'm not mistaken was also owned by Errol Dunkley. Besides producing the three classics IMO mentioned, were there any other LP's on the label or after gregory went to Jail and that was it?

I was under the impression the African Museum label was or even is, still producing re-issues of it's back catalogue quite recently.

I say this only because some of the pressings I have seen on this label seemed to be new or almost new and not vintage stuff at all.

Or am I completely mistaken?

The only LP I know on this label are Gregory Isaacs' one.

There are original and reissue. As I told on the other thread regarding original/reissue ID the label groove is the best way to make difference.

The LPs on this label are (at least):

Cool Ruler
Lonely Lover
More Gregory
Night Nurse
Out Deh
Soon Forward

and the VA LP "African Museum All Stars"

I only have the "Lonely Lover" LP. Got the other one (but "Out Deh") on UK press.

I had Cool Ruler on this label and it was so off centre it was unplayable - I would have to have moved the spindle hole by a metre to make it play! I have avoided African Museum issues ever since.

However, that was before I discovered that linear tracking decks can play off centre pressings without wow and flutter (although you get some sound distortion and noise as the stylus runs hard against one side of the groove)

No problem with the org pressings.
But reissues o lord they just still the old stampers .

Errol Dunkeley and Gregory Isaacs setup the label around 1971.Later Errol emigrated to England.
