Prince Jammy Version

Post by lenroy »

Can anybody tell me who done the vocal cut to Prince Jammys - Risen , from the 1st 2nd & 3rd generation of dub lp. The vocal version dates from 1980-81 and has the chorus 'live in love and unity ' sounded to me like Prince Lincoln or Roy Cousins, but what do I know, apart that I'd like to find out who it is please.

Thank you for responding. The voice on this tape I've got is definately not Hugh Mundell's but Jah Levi sounds a promising angle to persue, thank you, I'll look into it.

I'd really like to help but there is no track called 'Risen' on that album.
Most vocals of this record originate from 'Ravers Rock Combination One' compilation on the same KG label and produced by Fatman. Voices on the dub lp are Mike Brooks, Cornell Campbell and Don Carlos.
What track exactly do you mean ?

My most sincere apologies. To cut a long story short, my info came through a old John Peel tape I've got from 1981. I've got it written down as Prince Jammy On The Scene. John Peel described the dub track as Risen, from the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Generation Of Dub lp. The vocal to this that I heard was played by David Rodigan on his Rodigan's Rockers Show for Capital Radio. I didn't tape the show, my cousin did and gave me the tape. My cousin edited everything Rodi said, leaving just pure music. I take the vocals, so that I know what the song is, and who to ask for when ordering or who to ask for in a record shop.
Unfortunately for me, David Rodigan never replied to me when I wrote him a week later asking who the song was by. I hope the info helps you. All I know for sure is that the lp in question was out in 1981.

Okay, the song you're looking for is not on the compilation that I mentioned. The riddim is familiar to me and I will keep on searching, maybe soon I can help.
The records mentioned can be found in the archives :

Thanks. If I can find the vocal cut, I'll send it as an attatchment so that you can hear it. The difficulty is that it's on a David Rodigan Roots Rockers cd & not on the track listing, because I didn't know any details, so I've got to play through everyone from 1980-81, to find it, and then separate it from that show and I've a few.
