Straight back off topic, I've never managed to find any Blind Blake stuff (I know it must be out there!) but always thought that he would be the man if I did... I sort of rely on serendipity for my purchases, like finding an Undisputed Truth album in a Highlands junk shop on my holidays last year and that Don't Underestimate the Force one that was on the front page a minute ago in an Edinburgh shop for £1 (they had no idea what it was).

I like the way you think! Do you only buy vinyl? Not sure if there is any Blind Blake on vinyl out there.
I was just going to recommend some Blind Blake on CD and I've just seen it on Amazon for £40!!! Ridiculous.
Incidentally, it's at the time when blues and ragtime at completely intertwined. As I am a fingerpicking guitarist (of sorts) he definitely is THE man. Very, very different to Robert although "They're Red Hot" is in that sort of direction. "Hellhound..." it ain't!

I buy CDs as well but undigitally remastered vinyl is the preferred format! (If it's been remastered I think you may as well just get the CD IMO anyway)). If you could let me have the names of any good ones I'll just keep an eye out... I do love that hokum stuff like They're Red Hot too hence that album on Yazoo of half Kokomo Arnold and half Casey Bill Weldon is just classic for me. I'm a very rusty open g tuning left handed bottleneck guitarist all the way from the Edinburgh delta!

Hi Jesco77
I'll ponder over the recommendations tonight.
I found slide a very difficult technique to master.
Being a slide guitarist I assume you have "The Sky Is Crying" by Elmore James -http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sky-Crying-Elmo ... F8&s=music - £4.97!!
Actually, if there is one "album" you should own it is "Anthology Of American Folk Music" (Edited By Harry Smith). I have mentioned it before on the forum, but it really is incredible and totally, er, mad. - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anthology-Ameri ... 40-5292407
You definitely won't find any of these tracks in a second hand shop in Edinburgh. Everything is from Harry's personal collection of 78's. You will know some of the folks on it - The Carter Family, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Charlie Patton and Mississippi John Hurt.
My currrent faves? The Carolina Tar Heels!!!
Lot of money to take a flier on, of course.

I also like the delta blues - or any of the old style foot stomp on the shack porch blues. In fact, I've even been to New Orleans - I flew in there and rode a Harley from there to Califorbia and back - I really was getting my kicks on Route 66!
That said, I know absolutely nothing about the genre, just heard some stuff and liked it.
Also into Swing, got that from my Grandfather who was heavy into blues, jazz and swing. He actually used to tape the music off Tom and Jerry shows!
Wish I had got all his old records, they probably were skipped - Ouch!
Yep, 6anbatte, father in RAF for first few years. But when he left, in 1965, he didn't get out of the habit of moving around. It took me a while to shake the habit too!

Thanks for these 6anbatte. Don't have either but will explore. Slide is not that easy (and I need a new one because my fingers are now too fat!!) and trying to learn anything left handed is hard as well. I've always done it just by ear and trial and error, I find you get more control if you use the slide on your ring finger than your little finger... but I'm still rubbish!

Hi Leggo Rocker
Good to hear. It's all music from the heart as far as I am concerned. Also add in Zydeco and Cajun! Check out "Acadien two step" by the Balfa Brothers Orchestra!!!!
Harley up Route 66? Now that is cool!
Thought he must have been as my father-in-law was.

Hi Jesco77
I personally would persevere with the little finger as it gives you three fingers to play chords with as opposed to having to play partial chords with just two.
Just out of interest are you playing electric or acoustic guitar?
I must admit I am a sucker for tutorial DVDs. I bought this recently for my brother whose massively into slide - Kelly Joe Phelps - Slide Guitar - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kelly-Joe-Phelp ... UTF8&s=dvd

Hi 6anbatte
For slide, a left handed fender acoustic (fairly basic model I must add), but being as mentioned before an improviser, I use my little finger as well as first and second for fingered as opposed to slide passages...
Regards, will catch up tomorrow,
