What can you guys here tell me about the artwork at the top of the list for this LP:
I have the one with Sugar on the Mic, as here:
http://www.roots-archives.com/display_artwork/4956.jpg#
But what is the one above it? It looks like the title is mis-spelled. Was this artowrk for the first issue on Black Roots? Did it preceed the Mic pic?
Does anyone have it and can send me a decent scan?
Thanks

The yellow and black label has 1984 printed, while the white label has 1985 printed.

So the white label has the cartoon cover at the top of the page? And the Yallow Black label has the Sugar and Mic cover second from top - right?

As far as I know, the black/yellow label goes with the black cover.
I have never seen the other cover myself, so I couldn't tell.

I can confirm the yellow label witht he red africa goes with the black cover with Sugar on Mic pic. I have this issue and have seen a few others the same.
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has the other version, or knows it's history.

Hey Leggo,
I have the other (blank) label, but it came with the same cover that you have. Not sure which one is the original. Most likely the original press is the one you have! I have never seen the other cover artwork either.

Re: Sugar Minott - Herbman Hustling - album artwork question
here's what I have observed about the vinyl LP presses of this album:
the white label "Black Roots" in black text is in fact an original press which came from Jamaica. It is a crystal clear press. It comes in the sleeve with Sugar singing on the cover and a sketch drawing of that picture is on the back of the cover.
I have seen the repress, also out of jamaica but they put in in that cover with the cartoon drawing on the front and a copy of the back of the original cover. the press was very shady and sounded terrible. It was on a red and yellow black roots label.
still, I do believe that there could also be a red and yellow labelled original press out there -probably a crystal clear press as well. I have not seen it myself but I don't doubt that it does exist.

Re: Sugar Minott - Herbman Hustling - album artwork question
Hey guys,
Sorry for reviving this old thread. I just bought a copy of this record and now i'm wondering which pressing i got. The cover is identical to the one described by leggo rocker above. But in addition it has a small sticker stating: 'made in jamaica by dynamic sounds recordings co. Ltd.'.
The label is yellow/red black roots and says (p)(c)1985 produces by lincoln minott for Y. Promotion L&M music. Dynamic sounds is listed as distributer. Also, hustling is misspelled 'husling'.
Matrix numbers: DSR 4522 A HERB MAN HUSTLIN PABLO / DSR 4523 B HERB MAN HUSTLIN PABLO
can anyone identify the pressing? Is it just a JA repress from 85? Haven't been able to listenn to it yet.
REST IN PEACE to the great Sugar Minott! A true legend.
