Hi,
recently bought the LP Scientict/Jammy ´Big
Showdown´. The back of it´s cover shows the Green-
sleeves logo (green) and the faded red (not concen-
tric) label on the vinyl is ´Jah Guidance´. I cannot
read what is engraved below. The only thing I managed
to decypher is the number -8047-.
Is that original JA vinyl from 1980 or Greensleeves
english repress?
Thanx folks,
Gibey

The labellooks like this one : http://www.roots-archives.com/display_artwork/5027.jpg ?
If yes it might be an original. Actually the original Jah Guidance press has a DSR matrix + "Barrington Levy Dub" hetched in the run out grooves.

Mine (on Jah Guidance) is DSR0312, also has "Barrington Levy Dub LP" and "Randy's Records" written on the runout groove.
I think you got the recent JA reissue. I don't know if they're official or bootlegs. They reissued other Scientist LPs too, at least the Evil curse of the vampires LP.

Have checked engraving with a magnifying glass

Engraving run out grooves: Showdown with Prince Jammy...
Cannot decypher No. correctly: 86...

Re: To all you label specialists
the story of this LP is presented in the Barrington Levy "In Dub" CD on Auralux.
the original Jah Guidance JA pressing is a totally different mix than the Greensleeves pressing.
the JG mix is more sparse and overall heavier.
this mix was never reissued until the B. Levy "In Dub" CD on Auralux.
the confusing part is that this record was repressed in JA in recent years, with the Jah Guidance label (presumably by Linval Thompson?), but using the Greensleeves LP sleeve, and the record itself is a copy of the Greensleeves mix of the record, NOT the original Jah Guidance mix.
got it?
read the Auralux liner notes if you can...or just get the CD, it's GREAT!!!

Re: To all you label specialists
I know rob b, have BL´In Dub´ too...real killer!
& read the booklet as well.
OK, I have the Greensleeves mix with the Jah Guidance
label, but a different one as mentioned above by
wareika (archives here). That one here, shows that
the vinyl was distributed by Randy´s. I presume
mine is either the pressing before it was distributed
by Randy´s coz mine shows only in it´s left label corner:
Produced by
Jah Guidance
Dist by
Jah Guidance
or the recent Linval pressing...guess we have to
search new Sherlock Holmes for that:
1) We have the raw & heavy Auralux Mix
2) We have the Greensleves Mix with yellow label
identical with Linval´s recent splash out.
3) We have the Randy´s Jah Guidance mix which
is probably the same as mine & presumably
also not exactly the same as 2) since I heard
the JA mixes are always rougher than Greensl.

Re: To all you label specialists
GIBEY- What you have is a more recent press...which is actually a repress of the Greensleeves release.
LION- Not all Junjo Lp represses were on the Volcano label...some were blank yellow, some were blank green and some were on the jah guidance label (with torch), as well as some on the Volcano label.
Never as clean of a copy as the originals but nice to have either way.

Re: To all you label specialists
jahadambom is right....the one you have is the recent Linval pressing; Jah Guidance label, but Greensleeves mix.
the original JAH GUIDANCE pressing & mix from when the record was originally released (which was re-released as B. Levy 'in dub' CD), has the Randy's info.
so -
1. Jah Guidance JA press/dist. by Randy's/JA mix, later reissued as B. Levy 'in dub' CD
2. Greensleeves UK press, diff. mix, still in-print by Greensleeves
3. recent JA repress by Linval, on Jah Guidance label, but Greensleeves mix
i assume all Junjo's original JA stampers are lost (or at least not in Linval's posession), so when he decided to re-release this, he had a new stamper made from a vinyl-transfer of the easily-obtained Greensleeves pressing...seems the most obvious/plausible scenario, right?

Re: To all you label specialists
Thanx jahadambom & rob b,
finally got rid of that confusion & luckily
someone else the original BL ´In Dub´ which I
prefer slightly comparing to ´Big Showdown´
By the way: Who do you think actually mixed BL ´In Dub´
since the Auralux booklet kept quiet to give us
another mystery...
