Shocked by the ghetto scenes.

Post by leggo rocker »

I watched stepping razor the biography of Peter Tosh on DVD.

I've always liked Tosh's work, ever since we sang along to 'Legalise It' around a campfire at a Stonehenge Free Festival in 1978.

There was much to shock me in the film.

I found the footage of the Trenchtown Ghetto very humbling. I was born in one of England's roughest areas. My parents were about as poor as English folk get. The area was dangerous, deprived and dismal.

But compared to what the film depicts in the Ghetto slums of Trenchtown I was born to luxury.

I am truely humbled by the scenes and especially to think that so many reggae greats raised THEMSELVES from this seemingly hopeless situation by the sheer force of their own talent and determination.

WHile the images were sad, shocking and even anger provoking. They were also very inspirational because I know what some of these men and women managed to achieve despite the worst of beginings.

If you too were brought up in that Trenchtown environment and have achieved ANYTHING in your life then you are indeed the real heroes of this world.

I go on a bended knee before you and all who like you, have achieved ANYTHING out of such terrible oppression.

Lastly, the film reminded me that we all still have a fight on our hands. Because these conditions still prevail all over the world today, despite the richness and fullness of Jah's Earth.

Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight!

Do you know the source of that film? I'd like to see more.

Sadly, the indiscriminate use of knife and gun to kill inoccent people is a worldwide problem.

People have no respect for God and so how can they respect each other.

We are going headlong into the pit and I fear for the future of my children and their children.

Maybe we can't save our lives, so I live in the hope that instead i can save my soul.

Growing up, I learned more of what was going on in the world from Reggae than any other source. I learned of what was coming down in JA, not just with CIAga and Manley at the national level , but in Trenchtown too. Others taught me of apartheid in SA, while LKJ made sure I knew what was happening in the UK.

It's not just Music, it's the NEWS.

Peace,

Don't know if you know this movie " Tsotsi(e)" ghetto story but inna South Africa. Magnificant story and great camera work yet a real low cost movie, the end of the movie brought tears to my eyes ...

Ghetto's are a worldwide problem and so is the glorification of the gansta rap image! I come from the better parts of Belgium but i've seen kids looking up at the gangsta rap image and they think that this life is a good one? They walk & talk like gangsta but they lif inna big house and the parents have cash ...?

Love & respect & education is the only way to a better life for all of us.

Much love to all people, don't give up on hope!
