slightly off the subject but interesting information all the same I hope

listening to the Radio 2 programme Sounds of the 60s recently - a great show, just a shame they don't play more ska/rocksteady/reggae! - there's a weekly section called A to Z of the Beatles, where they go through all the Beatles songs in alphabetical order

not that interesting usually, but this particular week it was a song called "I CALL YOUR NAME", and they had an interview with John Lennon saying that this was the only song in which the Beatles tried to do straight take on Jamaican music (ska at that time) in a short break in the middle of the song

but more interesting than this was Lennon saying - I'm guessing it was the late 70s and he was living in New York - that the only thing he missed about Britain was the reggae music! he went on to talk about the Jamaican community that had grown up in Brooklyn and how they were making music with their own New York vibe to it, distinct from the Jamaican and UK styles

so he may not have recorded any reggae tunes, but it was obvious from this interview that he had a great affection for Jamaican music

who knows what could have been if he'd got into the studio with Wackies or Keith Hudson !!

These were tracks voiced on riddims that they procured from Scratch, but he wasn't involved when they voiced the songs in England. She didn't voice the tracks in JA.

Funny John Lennon story: In the summer of 1980 I was in a Greenwich Village shop that sold bootlegs. When I took my purchase to the counter, the clerk said that I missed seeing John Lennon in the store by about 20 minutes. I asked him what he bought, and he said "Beatles and Marley records".

Those pama guys were terrible when it came down to credits and titles, and trojan were even worse i think.

Many ppl think that JA labels are erroneous, but its a fact that the UK rehggae labels were a thousand times worse when printing labels and sleeves..
