Things are continuing to proceed here with the algoriddim podcast. It seems that there are a lot more people subscribing to the podcast in the last month and each time I post a new show, the downloads really jump for a few days. At this stage I'm on course to run out of bandwidth for the first time before the end of the month.

One thing I've noticed is that as soon as I post a new show, the downloads for the previous show really drops off. I have a hard time waiting when I have a show ready to go, but I'm chewing up my bandwidth quicker, so I need to pace myself.

At the beginning of my monthly bandwidth cycle (on the 21st of Jan.), I archived a bunch of shows that had been available here for a while. I may make them available for you at the end of this cycle if I have remaining bandwidth to use. For those of you that are new to the podcast, here's the focus shows that you've missed...

Wailing Souls part 1 & 2, Delroy Wilson, Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, Cornell Campbell, Keith Hudson, Max Romeo, Abyssinians / Carlton and the Shoes, Mikey Dread, Little Roy, Harry Mudie, Leroy Smart, Bertram Brown, Tribute to Coxsone Dodd, John Holt, Barry Brown, Joseph Hill and Culture, Joe Gibbs, and of course Studio One Discomixes...

If you missed any of these and want to catch them, check back around the 18th or so of February when I'll unarchive them for a few days if I have remaining bandwidth to use up.

Going forward... I'm still sitting on a few things that I'm looking forward to posting in the upcoming weeks. I have two good shows in the wings featuring Yabby U and Tappa Zukie that I've been looking forward to posting, but I want to mix "part two" shows for them before putting them up. The shows I have on hold are both good shows, but there is so much more good material from both artists that I didn't play. I've found that the "Part Two" mixes don't get nearly the downloads that the "Part One"s do, so I may not do this as much in the future. Let me know what you think. Was two shows from Wailing Souls and Gregory Isaacs too much?

While putting together my recent Royals show, I also sorted through a lot of other material from producer Roy Cousins that I'd like to feature in a show. Beyond that, there's a few really interesting Reggae Soul shows that I did that I would like to tighten up a bit before posting.

One more thing I'd like to say... I think one of the strongest things about my shows is that they are a continuous mix. Since I'm doing this live on the radio, there's plenty of times when I've had trainwrecks or horrible blends, but I always try to keep it bubbling. I listen to some of these other reggae podcasts on podomatic and I'm always disappointed to hear dead silence between tracks. One of the things I learned quick when starting to juggle reggae music on air was to flash the rhythm and move forward, especially if you're going to be playing several things on one riddim. When I listen back to my mixes, the thing that gives me the greatest buzz is when the vibe is nice and I manage to smoothly drop in the next version and build it up another notch. So, step it up spar!

In any case, stay tuned, become a fan and please leave comments!!

Algoriddim,
You are right that mixing is a very strong point in your shows. The vibe is right... and you make interesting connections with tracks of other artists. That's why I am downloading your stuff although many of the tracks I am having somewhere in my record collection. If other's do not mix riddims in a continuous flow, for me that's not very disturbing (lot's of soundsystems only operate with one deck)

The issue I am sometimes having with the part 2 broadcasts of your shows is that you have to be carefull in broadcasting a complete catalogue of an artist.

In my humble podcast page where I post some old live recordings, I am always struggling with the issue if I am stimulating people to buy reggae records and go to concerts, or I am damaging musicians their rights. When do you cross a border?

Hmm, you make a good point. I've generally focused on artists with large repitoires, but when you get to someone like Little Roy, there's only so much to pull from, and you get close to exhausting their cataloge of top tunes.

My expectation or hope is that people won't be satisfied with the snippits I'm putting out there and they'll be encouraged to see what pieces I'm leaving out.

I guess I could also not do the two part shows back to back, to avoid over exposure.

ites,
Benja

I am also interested in Podcasting from my record collection as some people complain they have connection problems with my show on Radio live365.

But I am worried about rights issues. What's your take on that Algoriddim? Do you have problems here?
