Bellyman wrote about Jackie Mittoo > "a musical director AND musician". King Tubby & Scientist were the masters of dub but neither played an instrument like J Mittoo, so you cannot compare.
I think the title of this tread should have read "No one play and direct like J Mittoo - no one dub it like Tubby & Scientist"

Mitto has been called the Keyboard King. But he was more than that as earlier posts suggest.

He was a musical genius. His influence on the course of reggae music is as huge as it is under-rated.

In my collecting I basically hoover up anything with his name on.

I too love Macka Fat, and also especially the Hot Blood and In Cold Blood Lps.

But there are still too many gaps in my collection - like these:

I don't think so he is under-rated, anybody with a good knowledge of Jamaican music knows Jackie is...i miss words...
I also saw that 'Wishbone' is right now number one seller in the reggae market in the US.
3rd March we celebrate his 59th birthday.

'Mellow Fellow' (with Ernie Ranglin) from 1971's 'Keep On Dancing' on Studio 1 is pure reggae magic.

"Rockers Delete" ????

By under-rated, I mean general people all know about Marley.

And most coming to reggae soon know about Tubby.

But only the specialist tend to know and understand the quality and contribution Jackie Mitto made to reggae - and then consequently and indirectly to much of modern music from Dance to Rap.

However, the price of his original LPs on eBay shows that the colelctor and specialist sure does understand all this!
