Hi guys,
please se attached link
http://www.roots-archives.com/release/4 ... ight=66506
This release is on Abraham so can I assume it is a bogus album.
I have read a lot of negative things on this forum about this label.
If it is not a bogus release is it worth picking up. If it is bogus but a good album is it available in its original format.
Thanks Guys
Dave

Re: King Tubby mets Scientist in a Midnight Rock Vol 1
There's so much great Tubby and Scientist stuff out there is it worth picking up anything by someone reputed to be a pirate no matter how good?
And I don't know for sure (no doubt someone here will), but I'd guess everything on that LP is already available elswhere, or it's just fake!
I have a few Abrahams pressings, picked up when I first started to collect vinyl again. The quality isn't that great either. Gradually I am replacing them all with original or at least sanctioned pressings.
Although, I would be grateful someone in the know on R.A. would explain exactly what/who Abraham is and what he/they have done wrong.
But, if we avoided any reggae music where the originator had been ripped off in some way or another we'd all have pretty small collections!
Like: I saw recently, on a Marley documentary, that the Wailers were paid $20 a song by CS Dodd at Studio One. I guess that might have been a decent bit of money to a ghettoman in those times but to me, one off payments for works of art of any kind stink.
Artists should ALWAYS be rewarded for represses, reprints, reissues and of course should share in profits made from big sales.
I've had my written work reprinted without payment or sometimes even permission, and magazines or websites have even resold my stories to other publishers, again without me being paid, and I can tell you it hurts.
So in a small way, I know how these reggae originators feel when their work is propogated without permission and they certainly ain't feeling pride at seeing their work out there!!!

Hi Lion
Thats what I though.
I have slightly mislead on this thread.
RA (as per link) show album on Abraham.
The copy I have seen is on Clocktower which I believe is a legitimate album that many King Tubby releases were on.
I`m confused, is Abraham bogus copies of Clocktowre releases /

Yes, some Clocktowers are back out on Clocktower but with an Abrahams Logo secreted somewhere, usually on the label and sometimes also on the cover.
Othertimes he uses the original cover artwork unchanged.
But Lion, WHY is Abraham bogus, exactly? And what is his history, is he even from JA?
I understand that even Brad and Clocktower weren't always 100% legit, right?

Hi Leggo,
The guy who runs Abraham is based in Canada.
By all account he holds no rights to any of the material he releases. Therefore, no royalties from the sale of these sides are being paid.
What the guy is producing are bootleg copies of albums which is has no legal right to sell.
Unfortunately it is hard to identify these at times as the online sellers advertise them as Clocktower releases and not Abraham.
You only find out when the item drops on the doorstep which by then is too late.
Because of this, you then have doubts when seeing legiimate Clocktower releases, you tend to wonder are they actually Clocktower or are they Abraham ?
Confusing and annoying

Stick to Original CLocktower stuff, usually witht he orange colour label (but not always as some B/W labels were used) and you won't get an Abraham release.
Any NEW (as opposed to New Old Stock) Clocktower LP is gonna be from Abraham.
If I see Clocktower on e-Bay, I know ALWAYS ask the seller to show me the back cover, and the label, to be 100% sure.
I now keep all my ABraham LPs in a seperate box, so I can look out for original Clocktower replacements.

Hi Leggo,
I know what you saying regarding the label colour etc.

Original Clocktower is hard to find.
And never release on cd.
The story about Clocktower records is complex.
Brad was a Jamaican producer and did the business the Jamaican way ina New York.
