Hi Leggo,

I am not aware of any full album collaborations although there are a couple of version sides of Pablo on the Derrick Harriet "Riding the Roots Chariot" on Pressure Sounds.

Derrick Harriet was using Augustus Pablo on the version sides on some of U Roy and Big Youth 7" singles back in late 1975 & 1976.

Although Augustus Pablo did record "Bells of Death" and "Bedroom Mazurka" for Derrick Harriet in 1973.

Soul Revolution Part 2 was one of the first dub/instrumental albums, I think. (1971)

Soul Revolution and Soul Revolution Part 2 are still missing from my collection. I would so like to change that but I only ever see poor copies at high prices

:(

So can we attribute dub to Perry? Or to Tubby as is so often assumed?

The Soul Revo part II is an instrumental LP. Does not count as dub. I had the opportunity to listen it and no dub business.

Who invented dub? Hard to say, but IMHO this is not a one man affair. It starts in the late 60's with the version sides, and little by little dub appeared as they remixed the instrumentals. Dub appeared more or less in 73. People like King Tubby and Errol Thompson were very important for this maturation. Lee Perry, didn't took part IMHO cause he was more a producer than an engeneer.

PS: Lion and Leggo Rockers, there are good pressing of the "Soul Rebel" (on Upsetter Jam) andd "Soul Revo Part II" (the vocal set on Maroon). My copies sound great.

Thanks Wareika. Given the prices crappy originals are fetching I'll go out and score some repressings of those two.

Can you tell me the record numbers and matrix of your copies so I can be sure to get the right thing. If you can manage pics or link me to the correct pressings somewhere I'd be so grateful.

Undertaker is partly vocal, partly instrumental. A typical Trojan release of the period (up-tempo reggae). Certainly not a dub album.
