so...

Hail

Dancehall is just name for music played fe the people dem to skank to inna danchall

But the word evolved to mean something differnt

as the roots era was coming to an end a new style of music was coming up and DJ's/ Toasters in the latter part of 70's were leaving behind the chanting DJ styles of the mid 70's held by many DJ greats like ranking trevor, u brown and dennis alcapone and moving into a more witty and more on point on rhythm type of microphon chat.In the late 70's a new style of danchall was born, rub-a-dub style which allow DJ's to test all there styles to the maximum. DJ's began to develop there own styles like the "right" and "ribbit" and "oink" exclaimtions made popular by many DJ'S such as Ringo and Lone Ranger. Most Dances and stage shows were cork/ram every night and DJ's would pass the mic around after there verse and drink heinikin while eatin a curry goat. One of the foundation dancehall artists was definatly General Echo/ Slacky Tidy. He revolutionised the scence in a way never seen before by chatting about things many old time reggae listeners consider slack. soon after echo, ringo and welton irie follow in echos footsteps and slack up the dance. Yellowman would soon follow and go on to follow the internation success that Bob had.Under-rated DJ's such as Papa Toyan, Lee Van Cleef, Nigger Kojak, Brigideer Jerry, Sister Nancy, Sassafrass, Captain Sinbad, black star, Papa houtsoup, pricpal ectt, are generally the DJ's i love the most and are the DJ's with the most talent. FROM THE LATE 70'S TILL 83 THE RUB-A-DUB SOUND RULED EVERY SOUND SYSTEM IN JA AND UK.

As danchall moved to 84, dancahall stars in JA bacame overshadowed by the UK dancahll scence an the UK BUBBLERS were in full force with the fast style. Tippa irie, peter king, daddy cornel, daddy sandy, asher seneter, smiley culture, papa levi, maxi, pato banton.. were running tings from 84-85 especially with peter kings smash hit even in JA "mi neat mi sweet" and papa levi's "mi god mi king" Even JA Dancehall artsists began using the FAST STYLE it can be heard in many tunes especially colourman's "plain truth".

As 85 came in, it marked the start of a new era DIGITAL when king Jammy released wayne smiths "under mi sleng teng" which is creditted the first fully computerised/digital tune. King Tubby, Jammys teacher challenged his sleng teng relase by making another very influential tune "Tempo riddim" and getting redrose (antony redrose) to sing the great "tempo" (credited as tempo but in fact its meant to be temper, as you can hear redrose pon the tune talk bout temper) This digital stylee was the ruling sound until about 87.

1987-1995

FROM ABOUT 1987 till 95 a new style strung up a style called ragga or raggamuffin. Admiral bailey, papa stitch, lecturer, ninjaman, papa san, LT stitche are amonst the founding fathers of the style. Many say Girls, Pum Pum, Ganja, and money are the main discussion but i disagree, i blive an indivual choose waht fe talk bout. Even capleton as early as 91, played a part in the ragga sound. He scored a hit with the track "lotion man" where him talk bout marmaman an dem wicked and sinful actions. Papasan also score hits scuch as "style and fashion" in 91 and LT stitschie with the tune "wear your size"

95 onwards (ROOTS REVIVAL)
After the ragga style starting to die down the dancehall scene evolvolved into what some call a roots revival. With artists such as luciano, louis culture, jah mason, jah cure, sizzla, capleton amonst many leading this revival the postive message is once again being spead to the youth & youth.

I recently saw the birth of Dancehall defined as when artists Sugar Minott started singin over old tapes instead of using a band? Was he the first to do this?
