about the amsterdam roots festival 1983 edition

Post by fadel diagne »

hi guys
i guess most of you are also fans of other music genres besides reggae
i have been also a devotee of african music in generl(fela, manu dibango, king sunny ade, hugh masekela, myriam makeba etc.)and of course a senegalese band which hasn't been that active since the death of their drummer in 1988.the band was called XALAM 2 from senegal and performed at this 1983 roots festival in amsterdam ,festival promoted by netherlands-base gambian music promoter called okoh drammeh.i wonder whether some of you and particular you dutch folks or long time residents of the netherlands sharing this forum have heard about this festival,or own video tapes or footage from this 1983 edition of this roots festival.please do let me know

hi rootmanx
there have been things much greater and more of a good music than thione seck;the group i mentioned as xalam who performed at the 1983 amsterdam roots festival was one of my favourite.youssou ndour, ismael lo and baaba maal among other, not to forget baobab are among the leading senegalese popular music acts.
please rootmanx if you see somebody with the vhs of this 1983 amsterdam roots music festival, promoted by gambian promoter who has been a resident of the netherlands(okoh drameh, just let me know.
i would also like the burning spear at vretenburg 1984 and the culture in 1978.
would you mind sharing them with me

you could ask klantenservice@beeldengeluid.nl whether any recordings have been made by the dutch radio and television at the time.

That's how I got a cd of a '81 concert by Prince Far I in Amsterdam.
