Imojah

Post by collieman »

does anyone know something or better ,got the lp from Imojah (or Imo-Jah)?
I remember it was a very rare production from burning spear & jack ruby....
One of those rare LPs who rarely appears even on ebay or on roots archives

Sorry breda, no idea about that album... but what's the meaning of "Umoja"...?

About Umoja what is written is that it should mean "family" in swahili...

But who's the spirit of Umoja?

if it means family then i presume spirit of umoja means spirit of family! but it's funny coz alot of these reggae songs with weird words which turn out to be african are usually totally wrong, just like "Sattamassagana" which doesn't mean much, it was translated wrong aparently but the abbyssinians sure brought that word to life! i was reading the true translation of what they where trying to say the other day.

Thanks for the info...umoja is actually swahili for unity.I'm Kenyan so everytime a swahili or kenyan reference is made in a reggae song i can't help but feel a subdued(and sometimes not)euphoria.Return to umoja is indeed a great album and not just for the name but for the 2 Earl Cunningham "words of the father" dubs as WotF is indeed 1 of my current great songs.
Naturally I'm a big Burning Spear(who took his moniker from our first president)fan and when the "step it up dub" on Tubby and Friends' "Dub Gone Crazy" kicks off with echoes of "twende"(swahili for "let's go!")i can't help breaking into a smile.

Hi Worsesooner,
interesting to have somebody here speaking swahili ! If you remember other swahili words used by jamaican artists, don't hesitate to let us now... If I'm not mistaken, "Mutabaruka" means "warrior" in Swahili? Is that right ?
Thanks in advance, bless
