no one has had an impact as great as bob marley, call him king, ambassador, prophet, it doesnt matter:he brought, and still brings, the message from HIM to people all over the planet; that is the message of peace, love and inity...

we'll be forever loving bob!

In my humble opinion Jamaican hero - yes, good advert for Jamaica - yes, great and talented musician - yes, an originator - yes, King of Reggae - no.

I struggle to see why a lot of his post Perry stuff is put on the Reggae shelves in music shops.I'd categorise it elsewhere. I'm not expecting many people to agree with me but I and several friends voted with our feet and boycotted his 1975 UK tour because we felt he had already abandoned his roots and "crossed over" by then.

I am not criticising what he did. With his talent, I would have done the same and gone for the money. He justifiably died a rich man unlike so many of his fellow artists who stuck in the Reggae groove. But to me, calling him King of Reggae would not ring true because he had left the genre before much of the classic late 70s stuff was produced albeit some of it inspired by Bob.

Are you serious ? The Wailing Souls are Awsome but don't even come close to BOB, No artist does. Not musically or Spiritually, Bob was alive for 36 six years, thats half the life of most of these artists, you could ask just about anyone under the age of 18 in any country and 9 out of 10 times they will know who BOB is,and BOB died 7 years before they were even born. WHY ? BECAUSE OF HIS WORKS.........Don't forget, Music is about the message of love, Bob died for his listeners, he could have easily stopped touring and got treatment but he didn't. I can't beleive this was even a Topic.

also artists are growing just as their music at so they are taking over, Bob started it and the artists that are carring the vibes on, are gonna finish it. how old is everyone by now ? like in their late 40's mid 50's ?

Matty,

I don't disagree with what you say but a lot of what he is famous for I don't class as Reggae. If Bob is King of Reggae then to me Eric Clapton is King of the Blues (which he isn't)because he started off playing it.

I strongly doubt even belive bob wouldve called himself the king. And rightly so.

Reggae music - in the form of mento, ska and Kumina was alive and buring way before bob with all respect due.

this thread is pointless. saying bob is the king is a comment made by ignorent people who dont know reggae, i thought the people on this site had a great knowledge on certain "aspects of reggae".

I guess i can expect it from people who only seem to care about the dub and roots section of reggae.only.

thnak you

Jerry,
You are right. There is no KING in reggae, I think everyone has their own king, cause evreyone has their own opinion. For me Bob is the greatest, for you it might be different and thats OK. Akuna Matata
