Roots RECOMMENDATIONS

Hail

Unfortunatly roots, is not i strongest category of reggae music. (ironic pon a site called Roots Archives)

i guess i was brought up pon shuffle, ska, mento, rocksteady - and i know alot bout them. not to mention dancehall.

i love roots to the maximum but wouldnt knowthe quality stuff like many people pon this site.

Could anyone recommend any good roots artsists, records or LP's.

Any help appricented. Thank You

ranking trevor there are so many good roots artits that you'll probably don't know where to turn!!!

I'm going recommend you only 2-3 artists(my favourites ). I'm sure you'll appreciate them!!!

Sugar Minott, Freddy Mcgregor and the Groundation!
"Rare Gems" (Minott) and "Bobby Bobylon" (McGregor)
are 2 of the greatest roots albums of ever!!
The Groundation are a brand new group that will conquer you with the power of theyr lyrics!!!

Hope you'll like them

gwan trevor, i man just a point you in the direction of (Studio One Roots Vol.1) on soul jazzCD and LP.Also Niney have a Compilation on trojan called (blood and fire) that one is serious too. Little roy have him compilation called (packin house) which is another favorite.
(Lennie Hibbert - Creation LP)
And last but of course not least, (Count Ossie and the mystic revelation of rastafari - Groundation LP), also easily available.
Unfortunately some of these other people dem dunno a ting, so best bet take my advice and check dem cd's i name. love.

everyone has there own personal favourites, just coz u may not like someone elses pick it doesn't mean it's no good, Chris's list looks very good, u won't go wrong with any of them albums. But Arkology 3xcd set by lee perry is a pure killa! u gotta get this one trevor, it's all various artists to all produced by scratch so it's good to introduce u to other artists but lots are one hit wonders, wicked cd set tho.
