ive gatherd some infomation on soe of the artwork done on certsin LP's.
After the roots-political-african repatriation trend faded away in Jamaican music, a whole bunch of lighter-minded artists emerged in the early 80s, with dancehall in mind. The cover drawing followed and saw the emergence of two of the most amazing graphic artists from the Island: Limonious and Jamaal Pete drew tons of covers, all hilarious and just plain cool. Sounds like World Industries chased Powell away, right? So long lions, wolves and symbolism… Limonious had a soft spot for raw dancehall scenes, horse races, pear-shaped decadent women, complete with hilarious patois cartoon quotes, while Jamaal was more into the portrait side of things, with a predilection for delirious recording studio scenes. Another classic series of cartoon covers also graced Scientist’s UK releases at about the same time: over the years, heavyweight dub's wonder kid got eaten alive by a metal Pac-Man, won the football world cup (he's scoring a goal on the cover), “got the world rid of the evil curse of vampires” (chasing bats away by driving a swamp boat around, fully equipped with sound system speakers) and “met the space invaders” ("Hi.")... Among other tings. This guy has busy days.
im i right in saying Limonious drew the cartoon like pics (Mostly on trhe back) while Jamaal drew the astonishing paintings mostly on the front.
