Hi utodd, in a cd inlet Alvin Ranglin says how he started singing with the Maytones and says: *the first songs we recorded at WIRL, Studio One and Federal were 'Billy goat', 'Call you up' and 'Loving reggae'*...but it's not clear if Ranglin had become a producer by then, it could be Vernon Buckley.

Simply because there were far better equipped studios by that time.

Re: producers that used Studio One
and cuz Coxsone only enabled budding would-be producers to use his studio as we've determined in earlier posts to this. Every studio had its unmistakable sound, and lesser-equipped or not, the Studio One sound was 'THE sound' that the industry and its followers came most to esteem. Besides his active shunning of independent producers, Coxson was considerably older than Linval, Junjo, Bingy Bunny, etc. and young man's business wants new and progressive sound with new and progressive opportunity, especially in Ja. Coxson seemed to let only Sugar Minott through to the inner sanctums. He sat on Willie Williams' and Bob Andy's works at Studio One for years b4 releasing them. Willie and Bob were assertive guys who threatened Dodd's dynasty, which unfortunately, was built on the backs of chronically underpaid artists. I observed Alton Ellis greet Coxson at Coxson's b-day party (60th or 65th, I ferget) with, "though me penniless still, I come to pay tribute." Coxson just chuckled and beamed.
