Why all the early 80s trading? (what about 70s?)

Post by Jah Chicken »

Greetings,
It seems that many of the most sought after records are from the early 80s at this time. Is this because most of the best 70s albums have already been re-released or have become so scarce that it is unrealistic to ever obtain them? There have been some decent albums I've found from 80-81... but they are few and far between. Two exceptions would be, The Mighty Threes - Africa Shall Stretch Forth Her Mighty Hand and Sons of Jah - Reggae Hit Showcase. Wicked, wicked roots!! I've moved both of these albums up onto my top roots-albums-of-all-time list. There's a lot of albums from this period that aren't as hard-hitting roots as those in the 70s. I'm just curious, as I hear a lot these days about the early 80s albums and most seem to be a bit of a disappointing once I get the record or hear a sound sample.

Roots!

Most people I've encountered prefer the early 80s rub-a-dub than 70s roots.

True.. Probably just a matter a preference I guess.. But I still think the wickest roots albums are from the 70s.

I think the people that invest much money in records nowadays are often sound system's crews... and the early 80's with a loud dancehall drumbeat, lots of echoes and dub mixes (and pressings on 12" mainly, much louder!) stick maybe more to the standards expected in sound system.

There is much crucial stuff from 80-89

I think maybe because the 70's stuff is more cultural/political themed roots and the 80's is more of a dance oriented roots...but all of it is Mashin'though! ADambom

i'll still trade [60's/70's 80's] [early] vinyl but to me the late 70's stuff is my strongest moment.

70's is good but way to old and u can tell the sound is old, now when the 80's came and roots radics took over, thats when everyone statred playing with them and gave a reggae a better name
