Tom Drunk But No Fool

Post by Rob Strictly-Rockers »

Does anyone out there have the tune "Tom Drunk But No Fool" by Jackie Brown that I think was the cut used for Tom Drunk by Lone Ranger on Hi Ho Silver Away

I have to listen to the Lone ranger cut. From memory the tune is over the "The Girl Is Mine" riddim (according ReggaeID website). Don't know what's the first cut. Actually it seem the riddim is called "The Girl Is Mine" from the tune from Peter Metro & Yellowman. The metro & Yellowman tune is from 84 but there are some cut on the riddim before 84 (the Lone ranger cut is from 82 as an exemple).

Check this:

Wareika,

Yes that is the one. Girl is Mine or Handsome/Winsome rhythm as some call it. The vocals start off as "You cheated and you lied about all the things you tried". I'm assuming that the cut used by Lone ranger is the Jackie Brown one although I've never heard it.

Rob Strictly-Rockers,

The Jackie Brown tune 'Tom Drunk But No Fool' isn't the cut used for the 'Tom Drunk' tune by Lone Ranger. Both tunes are total different from each other.

U can find the Jackie Brown's tune on http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2994 or as a 7-inch on TR Groovemaster.

ites deh

for what i have i supose the original riddim is from Stranger Cole-These Eyes a.k.a Crying Every Night witch U roy sings with Hopeton Lewis-Tom Drunk. The Other U Roy's Tom Drunk on JAH SON OF AFRICA is Same Song Everyday (Brent Dowe)witch is a diferent riddim meanwhile this album his a masterpiece for my taste of course.
For the Lone Ranger i Have Tom Drunk on Hi yo Silver away witch is a recut of the original by Clive jarret and it seems to be Carlton Livingston backing vocal but never found it as same of Hopeton Lewis with U roy-Tom Drunk.
Maybe where invited to do the cuts or backing i supose.
Like the example of U-Roy Peace and Love in the Ghetto witch Ken Boothe-Quiet Place a.k.a Man Next door riddim seen one time the single of Ken Boothe with dat song was very expensive.

hope it helps or maybe i'm totaly wrong

respect everytime

Hans/Ranking Trevor

Looks like this might be the cut used by Lone Ranger. Well done to both of you for recognising Carlton Livingstone's voice.

Artist Mikey Jarrett and Carlton Livingston/Carlton Livingston
Title Tom Drunk/Wake Up
Label Whats Up Doc (US)

I'll confirm it when the disc arrives in the post.

Cheers
