I have never heard any tune by Jackie Mitto.Now that i have seen one in one of our local shops,i need advise before i pick it.Could someone give me similar artists to give me a true picture of his tunes.

Usually you can't go wrong with Jackie Mittoo. However, note that he - like most musicians - had different periods that are different from one another. So unless you're getting a compilation, you might end up with a record you don't like. But don't let that stop you from checking out his other records.

First off there's the 60's to early 70's period, the Studio One/Coxsone stuff. I guess this is generally regarded as his finest period. Keep On Dancing is my personal favorite but it's all good.

Secondly, there's the Canadian stuff. Wishbone, Let's Put It All Together etc. When I first got into these records I was kind of dissapointed. It's not all bad, but I mean dude's covering Paul Anka songs here. A lot of the songs are not really reggae in my opinion. I haven't heard that Money Makers LP though, judging by the amounts it goes for it might be better. If someone has this please drop some knowledge.

And then third, there's the late 70's stuff Leggo mentioned above, In Cold Blood and Hot Blood. And ofcourse The Keyboard King, which was my first Mittoo album ever and still one of my favorites. Then there are those Showcase albums as well. I think his late 70's period is good place to start from, all of his Third World albums are really solid. Also, maybe it's just me but some of the songs sound a bit like Augustus Pablo. Or the other way around, some Pablo tracks sound like Mittoo. Anyway, if you like Pablo (who doesn't?), you'll like Mittoo as well.

'someone else' is spot on here with his description of the stuff like 'Let's Put It All Together' and 'Wishbone' which are more like easy listening than Reggae.

He's also right about the Thirld World wax. They are great LPs and the sound quality is far superior to the represses - but then the price is way up there too as they are pretty hard to find.
