Another underrated artist here, Sylvan White. He grew up in Greenwich Farm with Earl Zero, Phillip Frazer, Prince Alla, etc... so if you like the Freedom Sound & Cornerstone material, then I highly recommend his CD reissue called Africans Unite. A bit hard to find, but seen it on eBay once or twice.
Definately a favorite in my collection, so I just wanted to share my recommendation.

I only can agree with you BC, the High Times band at their top, absolutly great. And I prefer his voice to Earl Zero's or Frazer's one; stricly conscious lyrics.

Hi Ranking BC
Good call. Scorching album. I bought it recently on Amazon and it now appears to be readily available (in the UK at least. Don't know about anywhere else!) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Africans-Unite- ... 008&sr=1-1

Re: Sylvan White
I remember when Aaron Yarborough in Vermont, USA put out the Sylvan White 2LP, Yami Bolo 2LP, and various singles 7", 10" and 12". He didn't actually produce the sound material: some was already recorded from the 70's and 80's (Sylvan white) and some were recently voiced tracks on classic riddims (y
ami Bolo-linval Prod.) All of it great stuff! The Sylvan White is crucial Roots REggae -some sweet vocals and a few dubbs. I was lucky enough to get both 2LPs on color vinyl. The yami 2LP has one clear and one red vinyl.. and the Sylvan has a green one and a gold(yellow) one...Ite Red Gold and Green! All of the Roots Foundation releases are highly recommended-all of it classic Jamaican Roots style.
Good stuff! aDAmbom

I was lucky enough to pick up the 7" of Mammy & Daddy for .99 cents at Ernie B's, maybe 6 months ago. I was surprised...

Re: Sylvan White
Sylvan White has a few other tunes than the ones on Africans Unite...
There's a 7" called "Rootsman Time" or so... not on the same vein though... a bit more modern stuff...
There's also other chunes on some freedom sounds or corner stone VA compilations... if I remember right....
Indeed, all Roots Foundation releases are wicked stuff... the Yami Bolo album "Healing Of All Nations" on those classic Radics/Thompson riddims are also crucial...
Does anybody here knows what happened to this short-live label?
Blessings,

Re: Sylvan White
It seems that Aaron Yarborough's collaboration with Linval Thompson, Donovan Joseph, and the various co-producers of the Sylvan White was limited to this one time release (of LP's and singles). Not really a functioning studio record label, like some producers who release stuff they produced out of thier own studio. Rather a vintage revive as well as a creative new voice overdub seesion over riddims recorded at least 20 years prior to voicing. I too give massive props to aaron for facilitating the releae of this wicked music through his Roots Foundation record label. All of it is crucial reggae from the era that we all love-that's why it was so well recieved. Well mastered, pressed, packaged...Top shelf quality! ADambom
