Jacob MIller!
There has been alot of discussion about jacob Miller who is in my personal top three favorite reggae artists and current favorite reggae artist to listen too. Since I am too young to have any vinyle, I listen primarily to CDs. In a different thread many people agreed with me that the various record companies that Jacob recored for need to re-release, remastered copies of teh origianl classics. Now I am asking the members of the forum is there any way we can put pressure on these record companies to do such a thing perhps through a petition. Look forward to responses.

The Miller material has been packaged and repackaged several times. They include Dread Dread (first on United Artists on 1978 and later on Liberty), Reggae Greats: Jacob Miller (Mango, 1985), Greatest Hits (1977), Jacob "Killer" Miller (1978) and Natty Xmas (1978) (all originally on Top Ranking and reissued on RAS), Collector's Classic (drawn from the RAS reissues) and Wanted (Top Ranking, 1978. All have the kind of tough, wicked rhythms in which the Lewis Brothers specialized along with Miller's intensely energetic voice but the newcomer must beware of heavy duplication among these sets.
And on greensleeves the Pablo productions.

Sadly EZ, master tapes of reggae are rare and getting rarer. The genre has a track record of not preserving it's own history very well.
Many of the re-releases of material has been done by recording direct from rare vinyl. Sometimes this is done pretty well, but more often it isn't.
That's just another appeal of the real, original vinyl.
However, this isn't universal, and you will find some very good releases of old stuff. The Hot Pot label is a good case, they have released several rare old LPs lately and made an excellent job of it.
Like their releases of Leggo Dub and Earthquake dub for instance. Quality stuff that.

Re: Jacob MIller!
The mater is this one, JACOB's LPs were released by INNER CIRCLE themselves on TOP RANKING, TOP RANKING SOUNDS and TOP RANKING INTERNATIONAL labels who were self financed and finaly, don't have the shoulders for a good promotion and a vision for the futur of the music they recorded in these time. There is a lot of music lost today if the LEWIS Brothers don't work for reissues like the dub LPs of FATMAN RIDDIM SECTION and other album by artists like DAVID JAHSON or BARRINGTON SPENCE.It's seems INNER CIRCLE lost originals k7 in Miami after a storm in 80's but i'm not sure of that info.
In France various albums were pirated by Esoldun and i've got to admit i discovred JACOB MILLER with these copies because no other edition were available.
ITS A PITY, AN ARTIST LIKE KILLER MILLER DON'T MERIT THIS SORT OF TREATMENT

Re: Jacob MIller!
I have recently emailed Roger Lewis regarding the situation. It seems to me the remainig members of Inner Circle could do something about this even if they just released the music independently.

Re: Jacob MIller!
Yes, i spoke with ROGER & IAN LEWIS & TOUTER in 2005 and in these times there was the project of a release of the 'E-E Saw Dub' LP on Motion (2006). But it sems living in Miami who is the land of east coast rap is like living outside the roots movement who exist in Europe with the re-release of 70's roots material.
For that reason i think they saw a little late the potential of their own music recorded in the roots era and people like WINSTON MCANUFF or DAVID JAHSON have decided don't waiting INNER CIRCLE for release their own material themselves.
In France INNER CIRCLE is not a name today and JACOB MILLER he's ignored by reggae magazine. It's impossible to find his albums in new edition added with bonus and a good liner notes. How it's possible 'Wanted' for exemple, was never released oficialy?!
