Has anyone heard this LP? I am curious about Mellow Yellow's deejay skills... I am guessing that it was nothing special as we have yet to see another appearance from him.

His deejay skills were ok. Not bad. He did record another album titled Herpes Take Over as well as a single with Fathead.

The first song with Mellow, Road Block, on that album is peer dance hall niceness! I think that Mellow Yellow is a great deejay but perhaps not that unique enough. My favorite of the albinos is Purple and then Yellowman.

Yep Kalcidis, Purpleman is also my fav. The Confessions LP may be my top choice, although I have not had a chance to ever hear the first two LPs (Hot & DJ Confrontation). Are those any good?

They are ok. It's the same type of delivery (slow and off-key) that he's known for.

I've actually don't have Confessions. I've only got Hot, DJ Confrontation, The Yellow, Purple & Nancy plus the showdown with Yellow and Purple. He does good on all of them with Hot being my favorite. From what I know Hot shares a couple of songs with Confessions (session inna westmoreland being the same as Nice Up Session for an example).
Keeping an eye out for Confessions but it seems it's a sought after record.

Never thought about the Mellow Yellow album until a few weeks ago.
As much I like Yellowman, I prefer Purpleman still also.
Confessions album is a good one. I know the "Can't take the Bossman" on Confessions is the same on the Peter Yellow vs U Brown album.

It is very odd to me that the Confessions LP was credited to Yellowman. Does anyone know how such a huge blunder can happen? I understand the common mispellings and such, but come on, Yellowman's picture is on the front of the jacket, too! -haha. Vista Sounds was a decent label, wonder what went wrong here?

My guess is that they tried to cash in on Yellowmans fame by stating it as a Yellow album.
But then again Purple was known as the original Yellowman once so he might have tried to re-establish himself as that. Even though I think it's more likely they just named it after Yellowman to sell more copies.

I have never heard of an album by Mellow Yellow called Herpes Take Over. The one I have is Mellow Yellow Meets Young Ranks, on Jamrock. It has the tune Herpes on it. Does the Herpes Take Over LP really exist? If yes then I have a serious gap in my chrono-name early 80s DJ collection!!!
I love the sticker on the front of the LP I have. It says "featuring hit Herpes the most dangerous diseases"
The album has some heavy riddims, Channel One and Harry J.
Classic piece of vinyl.
