I have listened to "African Land" by Carol Kalphat and would like to find her other albums if any or other women in reggae who have uncompromising roots like this.
Would you suggest some?
Love

I doubt Carol Kalphat, I belive that is actually Prince Far I's widow, ever put out an album, just a handful of songs, just like most of those female roots singers. Although Joy White had a Lovers rock LP out
I think Carol Cole is actually Isha Morrison, Lee Perry's ex wife, but nothing confirmed

Re: CAROL KALPHAT-any more of her??
The Carol Kalphat track was issued as a 12inch on Hit Run which also released a massive song by Jennifer Lara called Jah Will Lead Us Home. These two tracks are among my top twenty all-time greats
) The flip-side of African Land is a wonderful Dub as well - Doctor Pablo & CryTuff All Stars with African Melody. African Land was also a single on the Cry Tuff label and appeared on a couple of ON-U Sound compilations as well.
I recently came across another single by Carol Kalphat which had the matrix number BKALPHAT, this leads me to believe she was either married to Bobby Kalphat or she is his sister. Of course he may just have produced it but this seems unlikely as it's such an unusual name.
Other female singers/great tunes:
Akabu (originally known as Mwanamke Mwfrika -> African Woman)
Jennifer Gad
Dayjah (with The Disciples)
Rasheda (also known as Empress &/or Sister Rasheda?) - Psalm 61 on Jah Shaka among others
Pam Hall - Late At Night (12inch with great sax playing)
Joy White - Idlers On The Street & Come On Natty Dread
Lorna Bennett & The Revolutionaries - It's My House
Full Experience - Aura Meets Lee Scratch Perry At Black Ark Studio
Sharon Little - Don't Mash Up Creation
Sharifa - A Fi Reach Back A Africa
... damn thinking cap needs another cup of coffee this early in the morning ;o)
=================
Does anyone know whither the Jennifer Lara track Jah Will Lead Us was ever a 45rpm single? Seems it might have been as it has a Dub of the same length but I've looked in vain for a few years and found no trace ;o) She did record some singles for Prince Far I on Cry Tuff but this one, if it exists, has eluded me so far.
Cheers for all the other info here
