There's also ZEMA, a los angeles based roots vocalist that is currently on tour in Brazil with the Gladiators.
Although she's not from the 70's, she plays some great conscious roots... her first LP self-titled "ZEMA" is from 1986, and her last 2006 album "Overcome" is great, with The Gladiators and Sly & Robbie providing the riddims.
Also check the albums "Black Sheep" and "Look At The Heart"... all great works from a sweet voiced roots woman!
Blessings,
CAROL KALPHAT-any more of her??

Selecta Bing - cheers for the info
)
I only have the US edition of that and the Dr Pablo Dub is absent. I think African Land also features on another compilation but I can't find my notes on that at the moment - non-ON-U Sound I think. The rhythm featured on one of Prince Far I's Cry Tuff Dub Encounters and later morphed into African Landing by Dub Syndicate. It was last used by Chilean reggae band Tierra Sur in 1995. It's one of the best rhythms ever for sure. The latter I could live without as it's just the lead singer recorded over the Dub Syndicate Dub ;o) an earlier Tubby's practice for voice-overs.

Re: CAROL KALPHAT-any more of her??
i have some info on the Jenifer Lara track on a radio show from long time ago, i'll have a listen to see what it says about the vinyl, it mentions the label and a few details on producer if i remember rightly, wicked tune!!! u know i spend several years trying to track this tune down and no one ever new who it was by, i'd heard it on a radio show as a youngster and searched ever scince with no luck until i met the guest who had played the record on the radio show that night, via a thread so was well pleased!! one of my all time favourite tunes. plus i also thought it was a man singing until i found out it was Jenifer! plus it's a Prince hammer Production.......

Re: CAROL KALPHAT-any more of her??
Litelet - I would think it would have been released on Belva if anywhere but maybe it never was. I don't have a copy of Knotty Roots so can't explore that area. If you listen closely to this 12inch you'll hear the not so well done segue into the Dub - it misses half a beat ;o)
I think the original recording of this rhythm was 'In This Time' by Rod Taylor on his 'If Jah Should Come Now' album. The Dub appeared on Prince Hammer's 'World War Dub Part 1' as 'Kamikaze Dub' (a slightly more subdued version than Miss Lara's) and was certainly mixed by Scientist. A wonderful Flabba bass line at any rate
)
If you like this track you should check out Prince Hammer's 'Strike The Hammer Wild' which was credited to Hammer All Stars. Yet another amazing track on Hit Run with Flabba on over-drive.
==========
Bwoyrough - nice story
)
please dig out any info you might have Yep, it was a Hammer production for sure, with Roots Radics playing. I've lost count the number of times I've played this over the years
