SMILEY CULTURE " Police Officer"

Post by DanteCono »

In the early 80's this english cat " Smiley Culture" had this incredible song out called " Police Officer". I finally found the song on a compilation lp at Tower Records, but my question is do any of youse know if Smiley Culture every put out a full length lp and if he did? What was the name of any of his albums.
Good lookin' out...

Smiley Culture dropped several releases through Fashion records and Polydor on the success of Cockney Translation and Police Officer, I've heard rumours of a lp called Schooltime Cronicles, but trust me, the tracks would be of an extremely commercial nature, if the title single was anything to go by. I suggest you stick to any of his outings through Fashion/Dub Vendor records, and yes, when Cockney Translation / Shan A Shan & Police Officer came out they went clear in the reggae charts at the time. Also check Shineheads Billie Jean / Mama Used To Say from the same period.

Two albums.

The first was the Polydor album Tongue In Cheek (featuring Schooltime Chronicle); a disappointing album.

The second is the Fashion compilation showcase The Original Smiley Culture. 6 tracks extended versions, including a couple of alternate versions (Roots Reality on Sleng Teng) and mixes.
