He didn't have to write much. Just some lyrics, he doesn't even sing on that album, he just speaks the words and the I-threes sing some simple chorus. The riddims are well tough, though. Strange combination - Serge Gainsbourg and the Revolutionaries.

White man cyaan play reggae is a stereotype. It nah true.
I was the lead/rhythm guitarist inna mostly white roots band. We were looking for a black singer. Some black folks pulled in to do a test rehearsal with us. Yunno something? 9 out of 10 really did not match our expectations. Some a dem singin like donald duck, some a dem a sung terribly out of tune and others couldn`t even sing a spear or marley standard.

It´s not yah color make you a good reggae musician. It`s 50% talent and inspiration and 50% rehearsing/improving yah skills.

When playing a live set, around 800 to 1000 people came in to enjoy the show. Even black roots & culture dreads. Dem skanking, shouting, enjoying demselves, lickin up spliff and wantin fi more after the last tune.

If we had not been able to play roots rock (just because whity man cyaan) no one would have come to our shows.

any one can play reggae, it is the singing that white man cant seem to get. patois is crucial to authentic reggae sound. it sounds lame and forced to hear a white person using this language, so when they sing it is either whitey voice (not so hot over skanking riddims) or patois (an imitation of the real thing.
with enough practice and dedication and focus on the music made by the masters, anyone can learn to play with the feeling and response needed to create some nice roots music.
