Cornell Campbell Meets The Gaylads With Sly And Robbie - On Culture Press

Perhaps the best LP by this reggae singer. The album is produced by Roy Cousins, so you should expect quality and that's just what you get.

Cornell Campbell's velvet voice is backed by the sweet harmonies of the Gaylads. Sly and Robbie rock it all along with the hardest reggae riddims. Together they lay down a collection of roots ballads in fine style.

It's a showcase LP so Sly and Robbie get let loose for some wicked extended play dubs.

This one is super-tuff!

Hey Leggo,

How strange, I am listening to that right now.

Before that I was playing Cornell Campbell "Inspector General" and "Ropin". Another couple of great Campbell albums.

Hmm, a bit of a Twilight Zone moment there then Rootsman!

I don't have Ropin' (yet) but I agree, Inspector general is superb.

I followed with more Roy Cousins stuff in the form of:

Pick Up the Pieces - The Royals - Magnum

This is a deep red vinyl that looks like standard black vinyl until you hold it up to strong light! Check your copy, it may not be the black vinyl you always thought it was!

This is probably my favourite LP by this great vocal group. Another dose of roots harmonies from The Royals who are too often overshadowed by the more famous harmony outfits such as the Gladiators or the Mighty Diamonds. But with Roy Cousins in charge, and the Revolutionaries behind them, The Royals can easily hold their own among the big male vocal guns.
