Just pulled out Visions of Love and here's what's on the jacket:

All Songs written and arranged by Earl Zero (E. A. Johnson) and published by Soul Syndicate Music/BMI

Sorry I didn't notice this thread sooner.

Rasta Four Eyes,

Earl and Jonathan are easy to mix up, only living about 120 miles or so apart in Northern CA. :)

Used to run into each of them fairly often many years ago.
Peace,

James

on Word Sound and Power DVD Earl also states that he's the composer of this song. Classic imo.

The original by Zero, the one recorded before Clarke's re-do at Treasure Isle studio is reputed to exist, but no one seems to have ever heard it. Dave Hendley told me when I was putting together the JC website that it might be out there somewhere, that he had heard rumours, but had never seen a copy. Personally I don't think it's anywhere to be found... however there is a copy entitled 'None Shall Escape the Judgement' and credited to Earl Zero on the Success label. There is a picture of it in the sleeve notes to 'A Rougher Version' the Trojan compilation. But not having heard it then my guess is that thi is just a mis-credit to Zero on an early pressing of Clarke's version.

The following link is to a magazine article I wrote a while back -

Though I havn't updated my Johnny Clarke website for a good long time now, there is still some useful information on it..

the same problem can be said about johnny clarke entering his gate with praise aman can write a song but my find difficult to make it into a hit
so the top producer of that timeor top artist my have better chance than to make it a hit
