1st rockers drum pattern

Post by jahganja7 »

i am a reggae drummer particularly fond of the rockers beat. the quick bass drum is great for charging up the crowd and getting people dancing. i know it was created by sly, but what was the first tune with this pattern? much thanks

I think the best approach for you would be to ask sly dunbar himself. Look for his official page on 'myspace'. You may get a reply.

One of the first tunes which features the "four on the floor" / steppers beat is Cornell Campbell's "Queen of the Minstrels" for Studio One. I think it was recorded in the late sixties.

Rockers style if more than a drum patern!

It's also a different way to record the drums with micro placed behind the drum kit instead of in front. Rockers sound is also related to the equipment of Channel One studio. The Hookim bro took several monthes to obtain the exact sound they had in mind...
