Kenyetta Hill - CULTURE

Post by Rootsgal »

I saw CULTURE 5 times prior to Joseph Hills passing and have yet to see them with Kenyetta.
Any feed back/opinions on the
New Culture" good or bad....Just wondering if he can fill the shoes of "HIM-fadda"....(father) for those unfamilair with the patois-slang.

U know what i was also very skeptical about his son being able to take his place, i thought like many others that there was no way anyone could take his place, i wasn't even too bothered about goingto see them the other month but wow was i glad i did, his son can more than take the place of his father, he is like a younger version of his dad, and he's full of energy from start to finnish, u can tell he's been at it a long time, a true pro, his dad would be really proud of him the way he has taken on the band, i just hope he can keep it up, i know one of the singers, the quiet one i can't say the same about, now he can't sing to well either, and u can see the other band members frustration by this, but he trys his best i'm sure, maybe it's the long tour tiring him out. If you get the chance to see culture again make sure u go, i honestly found the current line up better than when i saw them 18months ago with joseph, trust me he's a star and i'm sure he's gonna take that band places all over again.

I've seen Culture a number of times and have enjoyed every show. However, I never remember Kenyetta taking the stage with Joseph. You can find some clips of Kenyetta and Culture on Youtube if you search using his name. They are not that great, though. You may also find the clip of Culture perfoming in front of 70,000 fans in Kenya.
Respect.

Thx to all for the links and comments. The harmonies singers in CULTURE, Albert Walker and Telford Nelson also have solo albums and continue to write new songs as well.
Albert, I have been told, gets to sing solo on the CULTURE tour from time to time. I wish they would let "Tilly" sing a tune as well. He sounds alot like Tabby in the MIGHTY DIAMONDS.
Frankly, I think he could be on his own, as well as Albert. What a waste of talent~
Glad to hear Kenyetta is "filling" the shoes. I thought that would be tough. DOes he have that classic Joseph Hill laugh we are all aware of?
I never saw Kenyetta take the stage with BIG KRAWL.
Still, it's gotta be like seeing the WAILERS without BOB.

I ment that the clips were not that great, not Culture.
Here is one of the better clips
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wRDgd2hwilE
and I've noticed that folks spell his name Kenyatta, which would affect your search on google/youtube.

True - solo recordings may have brought Albert and Telford more recognition as vocalists, but I do not think their talents were wasted by being part of Culture. It's not like they had careers in another profession. You can check this album if you'd like to hear Culture without Joseph.

They get paid "squat" as opposed to being paid as a lead singer. So for that reason, their talent is wasted in my opinion. The pay is not equal between the three of them.
Albert and Tilly have over 30 years of music experience and Kenyetta has 1 year in...dat no fair, Jah-knows~

The youtube video seems to show Tilly, Albert and the guitar player in charge. They still sound good though. Nobody can replace that classic Joseph Hill laugh.
