How much would Bunny Lee want for the rights to reissue one of his LPs do you think?

Re: Vista Sound
I was distributing the Reggae LP`s from Vista Sound in Denmark in the early 80` - and I think the most of these LP`s are bad, only a few is worth to repress - f.eks. Shank I Sheck is a great album.
They are maybe collettible today because of theyr rarity, but the music is mostly bad.
(I was visiting Vista Sound outside London in 83, and the guy who run the compagny was a short little man, not very nice)
The CSA catalouge is much, much better to do - The Raymond Naptali LP is great stuff.
Big Up to Ernie B

I love the Raymond Naptali LP and I would give one arm (as long as it's not mine) to have his LP with Roy Rankin re-released properly.

Re: ranking dread 12"s compilation on greensleeves
i'm sure the 'licensing fee' for let's say, a one-time 1,000 copy repress of an LP is feasible.
the problem is just that these producers themselves aren't really 'in touch' w/ the collectors market, they just aren't aware that people want these things. he obviously sees keeping all these Striker Lee, Jackpot, etc. singles of big(ger) name artists in-press as a viable option to serve the 'revival' market. and of course endless repackaging/licensing of the classics. but i'm sure it doesn't occur to him that some obscure deejay albums he licensed to a UK label are just as desired and viable on a repress.
there also seems to be a real lacking in the reggae collector scene, of people trying to start small labels and do reissues themselves. i don't know why so many people see these producers are totally unapproachable, or that reissuing something oneself or working with a producer on a reissue, is something that's totally out of reach.
so many other scenes of collectors of old, hard to find, relatively marginal music (whether it be funk, soul, punk, etc.) are driven/perpetuated by folks constantly tracking down artists, doing reissues, etc.
seems like on the whole reggae collectors are content to sit back and complain endlessly about what stuff
isn't out on repress or what tunes they wish would be repressed. chances are if you can afford to collect vintage vinyl you could probably also afford to put out a repress. obviously this isn't something for everyone. but jamaican music has so much of a DIY spirit, i wonder why this seemingly hasn't carried over more to the collectors, to make things happen for themselves...
okay, rant over

PS
yes i am working on some reissues right now

countryman: most LPs from Vista Sounds bad? Wow. I don't know what you listen to but Vista Sounds released some of the best LPs in the 80s.

There wwre some dogs on Vista but I think there were a lot of great ones too.
re: Sunset/Harry J. I did some reissues with him like Heptones Night Food, Liquidator, Jr Reid. I'm working on some others with him but he cyaan find the artwork or the masters, etc.
re: reissue LPs in general: even if the license was free it is still a challenge to make it economically feasible..remastering from vinyl, new artwork, printing sleeves, cutting the metalwork...all this when you can hopefully (and I mean HOPEFULLY) sell 1000 makes it tough. I'm gonna hit 7s for a while, they are less headache. I'll go back to LPs after I grow my business even more so I can move enough units.
I love those Sunset LPs from 1984-1986. Uglyman is a good one. The cover says "the Ugly DJ with the Rockstone Voice". haha that is classic. I like to Computer Vol 1,2,3 LPs too. Cool stuff. The vibes was right too on the mastering, the bass was great.

Re: Vista Sound / In the 80`when I was selling the Vista things, maybe I had about 20-30 tittels throug my hand, and the most of the stuff was "not seroius" like Greensleeves, CSA etc. It was a cheep label (bad sleeves, bad label design etc.) and at that time the things was nearly imposible to sell - today many look at these things throug collectors eyes, and yes they was doing things other labels woudent touch - today rare things - 15 year ago I sold the most of the things in my collection I didnt like (a lot of Vista things) I shoud have keept them, and listen today - bad desission, but you cant keep everything.
